The ITF has finally expressed itself on the thorny issue of the Australian Open 1998. A few days ago, Marcelo Rios had asked the Australian Open title of 1998, due to the doping disqualification of Petr Korda.
With his request denied, the Chilean remains the only world no. 1 without having won a grand slam. This was confirmed by Sergio Elias, director of the ITF, in a telephone connection with TVN, saying, "The request was not accepted because Korda was found positive only five months later, and he was unprecedented before that match."
