When the ATP tournament in Indianapolis lost the license in 2009, the event switched to Atlanta, Georgia and it stayed there ever since, with 8 editions so far. Home players were the dominant force right from the start, occupying 11 out of 16 places in the final and winning 7 out of 8 titles, with one name standing out as the most prominent figure of the BB&T Atlanta Open.
Even before the start of this tournament, John Isner has been the most cherished tennis player in Atlanta, competing for the Georgia Bulldogs between 2003-2006, winning more than 280 matches in singles and doubles. Ties between Atlanta and Isner increased even further when the ATP Tour came to this city, and John was there to compete in every edition, reaching the final 7 times and conquering 4 out of the last 5 editions, losing to Nick Kyrgios in the final in 2016.
The 2018 edition will be held in the last week of July and Isner already confirmed he will fight for the 5th crown in one of his favorite tournaments, looking to reach the 6th final in a row and improve an already amazing 27-4 score.
Isner is not the only big name that organizers already managed to sign, with Bryan brothers set to defend their doubles title as well! The most successful doubles pair in history will compete in Atlanta for the third time, winning titles in 2015 and 2017, and they will try to maintain the perfect record in Atlanta, even at the age of 40.
Of course, this is just the beginning and the tournament director Eddie Gonzalez will try to bring more big names in the upcoming months, but it is always nice to start with the crowd favorites that will try to keep the trophies in the USA for another year.
