Big hitting Soderling and Berdych power into Quarterfinals; Murray loses- View: 1518 by Jonathan Morgan
7th seeded Tomas Berdych took on clay specialist Juan Monaco. It was an expected tight affair, but Berdych was able to hit through a tight first set and prevail easier in the 2nd set to take the match.
A very impressive perfomance mentally from Berdych against a solid opponent. Meanwhile, Robin Soderling and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga contested a very close huge hitting match. Lots of big serves, lots of big forehands, but Soderling was able to keep it together mentally at the end and expose Tsonga's backhand and movement at the crucial points of the match.
4 seed Andy Murray lost terribly to Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci 6-4, 6-2. Murray didn't play particularly terribly, he was just exposed as the average clay courter he was. Bellucci was in terrible form all year thus far, but surprisingly got his act together especially mentally to take out Andy Murray.
It was Bellucci's 2nd ever win over a top 10 player. In later action, Michael Llodra took out the Spanish crowd favorite Daniel Gimeno-Traver in a hot 3 set match. And the 6 seed David Ferrer beat Sergiy Stakhovsky in a workmanlike performance.
Thursday's results: (1) Rafael Nadal def. Juan Martin del Potro W/O

(3) Roger Federer def. Xavier Malisse 6-4, 6-3
