Americans Ryan Harrison and Alex Bogomolov Jr. fight for 3 set wins in Roland Garros qualifying- View: 1814 by Jonathan Morgan
After winning 9-7 in the 3rd set in the previous round, Alex Bogomolov Jr. scrapped and fought for another 3 set win, this time over South African Rik De Voest. It was a strange rollercoaster match, with Bogomolov Jr.
breezing through the opening set, handing De Voest a 6-0 bagel. Strangely, De Voest flipped the script in the second set, beating Bogomolov Jr. 6-1! So on they went into the third set, which was a true battle. Bogomolov Jr. played better late in the set on the important points and won the third set 6-4 to take the match.
Recently turned 19 year old Ryan Harrison had himself a tough match vs. Spaniard Daniel Munoz-De La Nava. De La Nava took a tight first set in a tiebreak before Harrison bounced back and won the second set 6-4.
In the third, both guys held serve and held serve. Harrison held to stay in the match at both 4-5 and 5-6, before breaking De La Nava at 6-6. At 7-6, when serving for the match, he lost the first point to go down 0-15. Then, impressive, the young Harrison kept his composure mentally, kept his focus, and served out the match to win it 8-6 in the third.
Bogomolov Jr. will play Steve Darcis in the final qualie round while Harrison will take on Javier Marti. .
