Spain's David Ferrer and Nicolas Almagro have reached the semi finals of the ATP Abierto Mexicano Telcel on Thursday while Rafael Nadal is yet to take to the court for his quarter final match, at the time of going to press.
Ferrer, a three time champion here who also won last year, defeated Italian Paolo Lorenzi 6-3, 6-1 to reach the semi-finals for his 18th win in a row at this tournament. Ferrer is aiming to win his third title of the season this week.
He will meet Italian Fabio Fognini for a place in the semi finals. The 43rd ranked Fognini defeated Santiago Giraldo 7-5, 6-4. In the other half of the draw, third seeded Almagro defeated Argentine eighth-seeded Horacio Zeballos 6-3, 6-4.
Zeballos had defeated Nadal in the finals of the ATP Chile event a few weeks ago. Nadal was scheduled to play Argentine Leonardo Mayer later in the day on Thursday.
