Taylor Fritz Gets Wild Card for Vancouver Open- View: 1180 by Prakash
Tennis - American Taylor Fritz has been awarded a wild card for the Odlum Brown VanOpen in Vancouver, along side Canadians Brayden Schnur, Filip Peliwo and Philip Bester. Fritz won the US Open junior singles title in 2015 and was the second fastest American ever to reach an ATP final, accomplishing the feat in his third career event.
He is currently ranked No. 131 in the world, having been ranked as high as No. 53 in August 2016. Fritz is also one of the few young ATP players to be married and be a father. On the women’s side, wild cards have been awarded to Carol Zhao, Bianca Andreescu, Katherine Sebov and Aleksandra Wozniak.
17-year-old Andreescu is the third highest ranked Canadian female tennis player and earlier this month, she became the first player born in the 2000s to beat a top 20 ranked player when she knocked out 13th ranked Kristina Mladenovic in the second round.
Wozniak is a former champion at Vancouver, having won the title in 2011 and is a former World no. 21. She is currently ranked No. 289 in the world, having dropped to No. 844 in the rankings in 2015. The men's field includes seven Top 100 players including Dudi Sela (World No.
74), Jordan Thompson (World No. 79), Marius Copil (World No. 86), Norbert Gombos (World No. 87), Taro Daniel (World No. 92), Ruben Bemelmans (World No. 93) and Henri Laaksonen (World No. 95). The women's field is led by Madison Brengle (World No.
