Malibu, Calif. (Tallahassee) – After winning four consecutive matches in pre-qualifying and qualifying, seniors Daneika Borthwick and Yukako Noi’s run at the ITA All-American Championship ended Wednesday with an 8-5 loss to Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari of Oklahoma State.
Lushkova and Tur Mari are ranked No. 36 in the ITA preseason rankings. The lone singles or doubles participants remaining for the Seminoles are sophomore Emily Fanning and Gabby Castaneda. Initially the top seed in doubles qualifying, they were bumped to the Main Draw without playing a match when a team withdrew.
Ranked No. 22, they will play their first match Thursday against No. 14 Ines Deheza and Stefania Hristov of Texas A&M. This marks the 30th-consecutive season that the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., will serve as host for the ITA’s Women’s All-American Championships.
Main Draw contests get underway Oct. 8. Main draw semifinalists in singles and finalists in doubles receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 12-15 in Flushing, N.Y. .
