NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana, No. 16 in Tuesday's NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Poll, has added two dual matches to what was a previously open week.
The Gold Nuggets (4-6) will play Schreiner at 9 a.m.
Wednesday at XU Tennis Center, then travel to Thibodaux, La., to play Nicholls State at 2 p.m. Friday. XU's men's team will not compete this week.
The XU women dropped two spots from two weeks ago and ended their streak of top-15 appearances at 30.
Still, the Gold Nuggets have made 34 consecutive top-20 appearances and have been in the top 25 in 79 of the last 89 polls dating to Feb. 25, 2004.
The national rankings are the NAIA's fourth of the season.
Defending national champion Auburn Montgomery received 11-of-13 first-place votes and remained No. 1. The top five are the same as the previous poll, but No. 8 Middle Georgia climbed four spots, and No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan moved up six.
It's Middle Georgia's first top-10 appearance, and it's the first for Indiana Wesleyan since 2003.
Next week the Gold Nuggets will travel to south Florida and play March 22 against St. Thomas (Fla.) — among the "others receiving votes" and in 28th place — then play No.
11 Keiser the next day. Xavier will compete the trip with a March 24 dual at ASA Miami. Because ASA Miami is a two-year institution, that dual will be counted as an exhibition, per NAIA rules. .
