Davis Cup - Czech Republic take over no. 1 spot from Spain in ITF rankings

Tennis - Who would you think is the no. 1 nation in the ITF Davis Cup rankings? Serbia? Spain? Perhaps America. No, it is the Czech Republic who will become the world's top ranked nation according to the ITF Davis Cup Nations Ranking which come out today.

On Sunday, the Czechs advanced to the World Group semi finals with a 3-1 win over Kazakhstan and now become the sixth nation to become no. 1 in the ITF rankings. The Czechs will swap places with Spain, who drop to no. 2 after a four year strangle hold on the top spot.

These rankings are used for seedings at the Davis Cup. Here is a history of all the nations who have been ranked no. 1 1: Australia 3 December 2001 – 11 February 2002

France 12 April 2004 – 27 September 2004
