The Plava Laguna Croatia Open in Umag will be held for the 28th time, as it all started in 1990. Umag, a small city in Istra region in northern Adriatic, is one of the most beautiful stops on the ATP calendar, and it always attracted a nice field of players.

Goran Prpic from Yugoslavia was the first winner and it was Thomas Muster who won 3 titles until 1995. Still, Carlos Moya is the biggest star of this event, conquering 5 titles between 1996-2007, and the other champions were Marcelo Rios, Guillermo Coria, Stan Wawrinka, Fernando Verdasco, Nikolay Davydenko, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Tommy Robredo and Dominic Thiem.

12 months ago, Fabio Fognini won the title in dominant style, and he will try to defend it. It will not be the easiest task, with the top seeds being David Goffin and Gael Monfils, and it should be a very entertaining tournament from start to finish.

World number 13 David Goffin suffered a nasty injury at Roland Garros, and he was forced to skip the whole grass season. Recovered and eager to get back on the winning way, David will chase his 3rd ATP title (lost two finals in 2017) and he will start his campaign against Damir Dzumhur or a qualifier.

Gilles Simon is the other seed in the top quarter, and he will face Marco Cecchinato in the first round, in what should be a tricky match for the Frenchman, even though Cecchinato played his last ATP tournament in February.

Fabio Fognini has to play Mikhail Youzhny or Nicolas Kicker in the second round, with Borna Coric, Andrej Martin (last year's finalist) or Carlos Berlocq waiting in the quarters.

Jiri Vesely and Paolo Lorenzi are the favorites to reach the last 8 in the third quarter, and the bottom part of the draw is also interesting, while Gael Monfils and Benoit Paire seeking the semi-final spot.

20-year-old Marc Polmans will make an ATP debut against Alessandro Giannessi after winning two Futures titles on clay in 2017. Full draw:
