The Dell Technologies Hall of Fame Open in Newport has been one of the unique places in the ATP calendar, where the history of the US tennis started way back in 1881! It stayed one of the most important tournaments and sites in the States, with an amazing Museum and an annual Hall of Fame ceremony. Newport has been a regular stop on the ATP calendar since 1976, with Greg Rusedski, Fabrice Santoro, Mark Philippoussis, Mardy Fish, John Isner and Lleyton Hewitt as some of the notable winners.

Also, thanks to the fact that it is played after Wimbledon, it didn't always attract the best of the fields, and we had some memorable moments over the years, with many lower-ranked players reaching the final or lifting the trophy (there's also a famous Casino course related to the top seeds but John Isner managed to break it).

This year's field of players should have been stronger, but Gilles Muller, Sam Querrey, and Mischa Zverev decided to withdraw after their Wimbledon runs, and we have no less than 19 players that are ranked outside the Top 100! Two-time champion John Isner leads the pack, and he has a very favorable draw, with 2 qualifiers, Dennis Novikov, Marco Chiudinelli and Tennys Sandgren standing between him and the semi-final.

Pierre-Hugues Herbert is the player to beat in the second quarter, joined by young guns Stefan Kozlov, Akira Santillan and Michael Mmoh. The 8th seed is Illya Marchenko and he will face Bjorn Fratangelo in the first round.

Lukas Lacko plays Reilly Opelka, in what should be a very entertaining match, with a two-time champion Rajeev Ram waiting in the second round. Taylor Fritz, Tobias Kamke, and in-form Adrian Mannarino are also in the third quarter, and it will be interesting to see who will make the semis from that group.

Defending champion Ivo Karlovic is the second seed and he will play against Denis Kudla or Mitchell Krueger in the first round. NCAA champion Thai-Son Kwiatkowski will make an ATP debut against Peter Gojowczyk, while veteran Victor Estrella Burgos opens the action against Konstantin Kravchuk.
