The second edition of The Abierto Mexicano de Tenis in Los Cobos brings players to one of the most attractive tourist sites in Mexico, and 28 of them will fight for the title and 250 points. 12 players are ranked outside the Top 100 and this will be a nice chance for some of them to grab the nice amount of points, although the top players should decide the winner of the tournament among themselves, including last year's finalists.
Tomas Berdych asked for a wild card and he is the first seed, hoping to win his first title since Shenzhen last year. He should reach the semi-final, with Konstantin Kravchuk, Bjorn Fratangelo, Tatsuma Ito and Adrian Mannarino in his part of the draw.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Frances Tiafoe headline the second quarter, while Taylor Fritz and Thanasi Kokkinakis will also seek a good result, as they both need some bigger points.
Tiafoe and Kokkinakis should play a great match in the opening round, and it will be interesting to see who will reach the last 4 in this quarter. Defending champion Ivo Karlovic and Feliciano Lopez, beaten finalist, are set to play in the quarter-final this time around, as they are the favorites against Dennis Novikov, Damir Dzumhur and Taro Daniel, the remaining players in the third quarter.
Fernando Verdasco kicks off his campaign against Ernesto Escobedo, and Sam Querrey will also be a contender for the place in the last 4 in the bottom half, opting to play here instead of heading to Washington.
