A difference in confidence could be observed as both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic made their way into the second round of the China Open. On one side, there was Novak Djokovic who had no troubles in dispatching away Simone Bolelli, 6-1, 6-1.
Playing for the first time since grabbing his 10th Grand Slam title and third of the year at the US Open, the Serbian had no problems in getting his 25th straight victory at the venue. While on the other hand, Nadal – a 14 time Grand Slam Champion had to struggle against Wu Di of China who is ranked 230th in the world and was a former ball boy in Shanghai.
The Chinese player broke the Nadal serve on 4 occasions before Nadal was able to scrape through with a victory 6-4, 6-4. Just taking a look at the matches, a huge difference on court presence can be seen. While Djokovic exudes an aura of domination on court, Nadal does not even come close to his best form.
The Serbian has continued to dominate the tennis world and he has cemented his position at the top of the rankings while Nadal, who has had a devastating season has now even slipped down from the 7th position to the No 8 ranking in the world.
