Tennis - Indian tennis legend Leander Paes will play at the Asian Games but has asked the All India Tennis Association to excuse him from the Davis Cup World Group play-off tie against Serbia in September.

Paes requested to the AITA to not include him in the squad, due to personal reasons - most likely, his custody battle with Rhea Pillai over their eight-year old daughter. AITA Secretary General Bharat Oza commented, "Leander will play Asian Games and was very much willing to play in the Davis Cup as well.

However due to his personal compulsions, AITA has decided to accept his request to not play against Serbia." Paes' absence is a major setback for India's chances against the Serbs. Indian Davis Cup captain would have been banking on the doubles rubber had Paes partnered with Rohan Bopanna.

But it looks like now that Bopanna would need to partner with a lower ranked player on the tie. ALSO READ - PAES RE-ENTERS THE TOP 10 THIS WEEK ALSO READ - PAES NAMED TO INDIA'S SQUAD FOR ASIAN GAMES .
