The Russian broke Kvitova in the third game and saved all three break points she faced in the first set to take the first set 6-4.
In the second set Kvitova outplayed Makarova. She did not face even a single break point in whole set and broke Makarova twice to take the second set 6-1. Makarova got a break in the 4th game of the third set and broke Kvitova again when she was serving to stay in the match at 2-5.
She won the third set 6-2 to book her place in the last 8. .
