The rain was the main protagonist at the Melbourne Park on Friday, allowing just 4 matches to be completed in men's qualifying round and creating a packed Saturday with some 26 matches scheduled to be played. Quentin Halys earned the place in the final round after a 4-6 6-3 6-0 victory over Pedja Krstin, raising his level after the first set and breaking Krstin 5 times in total to finish the match in style. Pedja broke young Frenchman twice in the closing stages of the first set but Quentin found his serve in the rest of the match, hitting plenty of service winners and dominating with his first serve to keep his games intact.

A break at love in the second game gave Halys the second set and he had the strings of the match in his hands, racing through the final set without losing a game to move within a win from the place in the main draw. Second qualifying round results:
