Second semifinal in Toronto is set. Elina Svitolina and Simona Halep will face each other later tonight. The Ukranian player defeated Garbine Muguruza 4-6 6-4 6-3 after two hours and eight minutes play. The match was interrupted on Friday night after the first set due to rain.

Players were tied on 3-3 in the head to head meetings, this year Muguruza had won in Indian Wells and Svitolina in Rome. Today in the second set Elina was up a break twice, and at the end she managed to take it to a decider.

In the third set Muguruza was leading 2-1 and serve, but then she lost five of the last six remaining games. Svitolina will face Halep in a Rome final rematch won by the Ukranian in third set. Simona, who won Rogers Cup title last year, dismissed Caroline Garcia by 6-4 6-2.

Halep saved both break points faced in the whole match, she showed to be again in a great shape, while Garcia showed to still be behind top players like Halep in terms of physical strength and tennis wise. The Romanian will stay No.

2 anyway at the end of this tournament, but winning the title she would be only 240 points away from World No. 1 Karolina Pliskova, who will try to defend Cincinnati title next week. .
