Belgian tennis player David Goffin has become the 12th player ever to beat Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer at the same tournament. Goffin, 26, beat 16-time Grand Slam champion Nadal in his Nitto ATP Finals opener 7-6 (5) 6-7 (4) 6-4.
It was Goffin's first-ever win over Nadal, who quit the prestigious event after the loss to the Belgian. Goffin then edged 19-time Grand Slam champion Federer in the semi-finals. Goffin, who lost his first six matches played against Federer, created a huge comeback against the Swiss at The O2 Arena to reach the final 2-6 6-3 6-4.
In all 11 previous cases. the one who beat the superstar duo went on claim the championship. Goffin would love to continue that trend when he takes on the court at The O2 Arena on Sunday.
Nadal and Federer have lost to same player at same tournament 11 times.
All 11 have won the title. This will be just the second time that the player faces someone other than Nadal or Federer in the final.
