In 2017, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer split Grand Slam titles and most of the Masters 1000s, and the Swiss beat the Spaniard four times in four matches played. In an interview to Cadena Ser, Nadal was asked whether Federer was the best he’d ever come up against.

'Well, it’s complicated,' Nadal said. ‘What with titles and what he’s accomplished that says he’s the best in the history of our sport. ‘Is he the best I’ve played against? Well, maybe, yes, I’ve also played the great Djokovic, we’ve run into other really good players.

But it’d be unfair to say that Federer isn’t the best I’ve ever played against because the titles and his track record prove that to be the case. But at a technical level, when Djokovic has been at the top of his game, I have to say that I’ve been up against an invincible player.’ On Monday, speaking at a sponsorship event with Vive Telefonica, Nadal also shared, 'Roger Federer said that he would bring his sons to the Rafa Nadal Academy.

I would say that it is the most important professional and vital project of my career, it is very special for me. The Academy is a training centre for athletes where they are given all the possible opportunities so that they can reach their maximum potential, and is equipped with the latest technology applied to sports.'
