Severin Luthi has been awarded as "Coach of the Year" in Switzerland during Credit Suisse Sports Swiss Awards on Sunday night. Luthi has been in the World No. 2 Roger Federer's team since 2008.
This year he was one of the keys of the 19-time Grand Slam winner's success, having an amazing cooperation with Ivan Ljubicic. Luthi has been the Swiss Davis Cup team captain since 2005, in 2014 he brought the team to win the title and this year Switzerland managed to stay in the World Group by beating Belarus 3-2 in the play-off tie.
He doesn't want to praise himself and he releases interviews only during the most important tournaments of the year. 'For me, the only thing that matters is to help Roger playing better', the 41-year-old once said.
He worked with coaches like Paul Annacone from 2010 to 2013 and then with Stefan Edberg, always bringing successes to Federer. 'For me it's very inspiring to see Roger's passion', he said on Sunday after getting the award.
'I learn a lot from him.' Federer congratulated Luthi on Twitter: 'So well deserved, lucky to have you on my team. You’ve been a rock in my corner for years. Thank you.'
