Richard Gasquet: 'Federer? I beat him twice, you never know...'

Richard Gasquet had an easy win on Thursday against the Italian Lorenzo Sonego. The French player prevailed in straight sets, 6-2 6-2 6-4, and speaking to the French media he commented on his next match against the Swiss Roger Federer, who instead beat Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4 6-4 7-6.

It will be the 19th meeting between the two players. Gasquet beat Federer just in 2011 Rome and 2005 Monte Carlo. They last played against each other at 2017 Shanghai. 'I know the big player he is', Gasquet admitted, as quoted by L'Equipe. 'I will try to play a great match, I hope to play in the day rather than night.

I will be ready. I beat him twice. You never know what can happen.' Instead, they will play at night as second match of the night session on Rod Laver Arena. Gasquet only prevailed over Federer in 2011 Rome and 2005 Monte Carlo events, and lost the other 16 matches played.

They last faced each other in Shanghai a few months ago, with Federer winning in straight sets. ALSO READ: Mats Wilander: 'If Roger Federer plays like this, no one can beat him' .
