Bernard Tomic is all set for his first title defense, when he leaves for Sydney to feature at the Apia International Sydney 2014 next week. Tomic, who is currently representing Australia at the Hopman Cup in Perth, said that he is positive going into Sydney.
"I'm ready (for Sydney)... I felt comfortable today. I tried to play aggressive when I had the chance. I felt good from the start so there isn't a lot he could have done. I think I played ok," The Age quoted Tomic, after his 6-1, 6-4 win over Poland's Grzegorz Panfil.
"I was confident in myself, a bit better than my second round match against (Andreas) Seppi," he added. "I'm happy with my confidence going to Sydney; if I start the tournament well there I can defend it.
"I have to prepare well over the next four or five days to give myself the best chance. It will be different (being the defending champion); I'm ready for it. I have got to start strong in the tournament early and have a good draw and play that first match or two and get that confidence up and who knows from there?" .
