The 2018 season hasn't started well for Eugenie Bouchard. The world no. 83 lost all three singles matches she played at the Hopman Cup, and is not at her best physically. After her 6-4 6-4 loss to Elise Mertens on Friday, the Canadian player admitted she felt an unusual pain.
'My arse hurts,' Bouchard admitted. 'I think it's maybe a little strained or a little pulled or something. There was a really sharp pain. I felt it going wide on my backhand and landing on my serve with my left leg.
I'm going to the physio now to see what it is. I don't think it's too bad but it was getting worse throughout the match.' Bouchard was cautious when asked about her Australian Open appearance. 'I'm hopeful but you never know.
You always get little muscle pulls here or there. But this one specifically, no [I've never had it before],' said Bouchard, who will next be seen at the Hobart International. Story by SMH ALSO READ: Paolo Lorenzi: 'Roger Federer struggles to have a normal life' .
