Former US Open Champion Sam Stosur is not happy with her No.1 Australian tag taken from her. But the World No.42 is happy that this would help her play more freely with no pressure of expectations on her. Not having progressed beyond the Fourth Round of the Australian Open, Stosur feels that the pressure has shifted from her to Ashleigh Barty and Daria Gavrilova and this can work in her favor.
"I never wished to be the third one, put it that way," she said of her spot in Australia's rankings pecking order. More than anything, I know what I can do and what I am capable of and how I can play,” she said. She further added, “That has always been (the case) when I have been the No.1-ranked player.
Now that I am No.3 ... the first and foremost thing that I am thinking about and feel like I am capable of doing, regardless of whatever anyone else says.” "I feel like I can fly under the radar a little bit more maybe than other years, but when you are playing well and have that better number next to your name, that is obviously a great thing."
