Tennis - Poland came into the Hopman Cup as the top seeds but when Wimbledon semi-finalist Jerzy Janowicz withdrew from the tournament before the start with injury, not many fancied their chances of making it to the finals this weekend.
But Agnieszka Radwanska, the world no. 5, proved to be the saviour as she helped Poland do just that. The fifth ranked Radwanska defeated Australia's Sam Stosur 3-6 6-4 6-3 in the first rubber of the tie and then watched Australia level up as Bernard Tomic beat Grzegorz Panfil in straight sets.
The Poles needed to win a set in the mixed doubles to ensure they reach the finals instead of Canada and they went on to win the mixed - 1-6 7-5 [10-8] over Tomic and Stosur.. Radwanska needed an injury time out midway through the second set of the women’s singles to receive treatment on her heavily strapped right shoulder.
