Garbine Mugurza has had a fruitful year so far as she reached her maiden Grand Slam finals at Wimbledon. Starting the year outside the Top-20 at No.21, the Spaniard is now ranked at a personal best of No.5 on the WTA Charts.
Reaching the finals of the Wuhan Open last week, the 22 year old is just one win away from securing a spot in the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global. Winning her first match at the China Open by defeating Irina Falconi in straight sets, Muguruza is through to the Third Round where she takes on Croat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni.
If she reaches the quarterfinals of the Premier Mandatory-level event she will qualify for the WTA Finals for the first time, becoming the first Spaniard to do it since Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario in 2001. ALSO READ Flavia Pennetta: ´Serena Williams Will Not Last Long as World Number 1´ .
