Tommy Haas enters tennis history after his win over Opelka

The match between Tommy Haas and Reilly Opelka was historical. The 39-year-old German player beat the 19-year-old Reilly Opelka 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3 on Monday at the ATP 250 Houston becoming the oldest man to win a match at professional level since 1995, when Jimmy Connors, aged 42, reached quarter-finals in the ATP Halle, Germany.

Haas, now outside top 800 but former World No. 2, got his first win since 2015 Wimbledon, breaking Opelka for the first time in the match in the third set on the tenth break point. There was a 19½-year gap between Haas and Opelka, the fifth-biggest in a tour match since 1995, and the eighth-biggest since 1985.

Haas, who is playing probably his last season in career, will face the first-seeded player Jack Sock next. ALSO READ: Tommy Haas: 'What Roger Federer is doing is CRAZY' .
