Neighbours Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan were level 1-1 after day one of the Davis Cup World Group playoffs tie in Astana, Kazakhstan. World no. 34 from Uzbekistan Denis Istomin drew the first blood as he won in 5 sets against Evgeny Korolev of Kazakhstan.
6-3,4-6,6-2,0-6,6-3 was the scoreline of the match which gave visiting team the lead but Kazakh world no. 70 Mikhail Kukushkin defeated Farrukh Dustov in four sets 6-2,6-4,3-6,7-6 to equalise the tie. Now the doubles match will be played on Saturday, before the reverse singles which will decide the team which will go into World Group next year.
