The Premier Mandatory WTA event in Madrid got off to a start on Saturday with two-tim Grand Slan champion Svetlana Kuznetsova losing in the first round to Slovak Domnika Cibulkova in straight sets. The Slovak scored her third successive win over the Russian.

Other top seeds in action all went through on Saturday. World no. 3 Vera Zvonareva, playing with a new coach in her team, beat Swiss veteran Patty Schynder in three sets while Australian Sam Stosur also needed three sets to beat Gisela Dulko.

Fourth seed Victoria Azarenka did not drop a game in her win over Vera Dushevina. Azarenka is aiming for her thrid title in her last 4 events - her only loss in that period coming due to a withdrawal in her last event. MADRID OPEN - Saturday, April 30, 2011 Singles - First Round
