Gorgeous Georges wins as former world no.1´s crash out

Three former world no. 1 women were beaten at the WTA Madrid Open on Wednesday. 8th seed Maria Sharapova showed she os still far away from her Grand Slam winning form as she lost in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 to Slovak Dominika Cibulkova.

7th seed Jelena Jankovic was beaten in a tight three setter by Czech Lucie Safarova 64 46 75. The win was Safarova's 10th against a top 10 opponent. Also advancing was the new WTA darling Julia Georges, dubbed as Gorgeous Georges.

The German, who beat world no. 1 Caroline Wozniacki to win the Stuttgart title on 10 days ago, beat Dinara Safina 64 46 64 in another close battle. Safina was undone by 15 doubles faults in the match. Georges now takes on world no.
