WTA Madrid - Azarenka stops Goerges juggernaut

Victoria Azarekna continued to set herself up as a firm favourite for the French Open title with a 6-4, 6-2 win over red-hot German Julia Goerges in the semi finals of the Madrid Open earlier today. Goerges had won the Stuttgart title 12 days ago and had scored two wins over world no.

1 Caroline Wozniacki in that period but was unable to match the pace and consistency of the Belarussian. Azarenka won back to back title in Marabella and Miami and has now won 19 of her last 21 matches - both lossed coming when she had to retire due to injury.

Azarenka will move to a new career high ranking of no. 4 in the world on Monday irrespective of the result of the final. Her opponent in the final will be Czech Petra Kvitova. The left hander beat Li Na also in straight sets.

Kvitova will enter the top 10 rankings for the first time next week. The Cezch began the year winning 16 of her first 17 matches - but had won only 1 of 5 tour matches com .
