They were the two stronger contestants left in the draw, considering the moment of form and forgetting for one second about the rankings. They had to meet in the semi-finals as only one spot was made available for Sunday's final.

Agnieszka Radwanska vs Alize Cornet was probably the best match of the tournament. No.1 seed Radwanska was the main favorite and the home-favorite, playing in front of her people and her Grandmother Wieslawa.

The World No.3 was making only her third appearance in a WTA held in Poland. The two previous times Aga played in her home country were both in Warsaw in 2006 and 2007. The first time was also Radwanska's first appearance in a WTA main draw.

On the other side of the net was 4th seed Alize Cornet, a player that found her best tennis back in 2014, reaching the final in Dubai (losing to Venus Williams) and the semi-finals of the WTA of Paris earlier this year.

Alize is now only two steps away from making her top 20 come back. When the match started it looked as if there was going to be no match at all. Agnieszka was feeling inspired, Alize was just nervous. The first set flew away in minutes, as Radwanska won by 6-0.

Things turned around in the second, won by the French. The third set saw both players battling on every point, making the rallies longer, fighting hard to win a point. In the end, it was Cornet's better consistency which allowed her to sail into her second WTA final of the year.

The final score awards victory to Cornet with the final score of 0-6 6-2 6-4 in 2 hours and 8 minutes. Now Alize will meet on Sunday's final young Italian Camila Giorgi. The 22-year-old had a dream run in Katowice.

Before coming to Poland Camila was a gun that seemed to make a shot only in big events. In the past 2 years, Giorgi reached the 4th round at Wimbledon and the US Open. Few weeks ago she even took out Maria Sharapova to reach the fourth round in Indian Wells.

That said, before Katowice, Camila had never reached the quarter-finals of a WTA event. Things changed big time in Poland, where on Saturday Camila beat the 3rd seed and World No.17 Carla Suarez Navarro in the semi-finals, with the final score of 7-6(2) 6-4.

One thing a spectator would be sure to see in a Giorgi's match is the ball running at an incredible fast pace. The little Italian is no afraid of pushing and hitting every single shot full power. As Camila in the past months has finally managed to find a balance in her incredibly aggressive game, she finally started to climb the rankings.

With the final reached in Katowice, Camila will be very close to break into the top 50. Giorgi and Cornet played before this year, in the second round of the Australian Open.

In a tight three-set battle, Alize managed to beat the Italian by 6-3 4-6 6-4, recovering from a break down in the third. Will it be time for Camila to get her revenge and her first WTA title? .
