Bernard Tomic will have to play in the Australian Open Qualifying draw for the first time in ten years. Last time the Australian player had to start from qualies in the first Grand Slam event of the season was 2008, then from 2009 until 2017 he always played in the main draw. However, this year he left top 100, and his lack of effort made Tennis Australia angry. The organizers didn't grant him a wild card, which instead Thanasi Kokkinakis took, and the only chance for Tomic was to play the Wild Card Play-Offs which start as every year in December. The winner gets directly in the main draw, but Tomic declined to play there.
He will instead play Brisbane International and Australian Open qualies. The World No. 142 reached fourth round thrice in Melbourne, but for him in 2018 the road will be tough. Here below full Australian Open Wildcard Playoff Entry List, that features 16 players:
