Ryder Cup, European Team arrived in Kohler

In the United States, fever rises for the 43rd edition of the Ryder Cup, scheduled from Friday to Sunday (24-26 September) in Kohler, Wisconsin. Where the European team, holder of the title, arrived today on a charter flight from London.

Trophy on display and desire to repeat the masterpiece signed in Paris 2018. This is how the team of Padraig Harrington presented himself, who entertained his boys during the flight. "This is the captain speaking to you", the message from the Irishman who symbolically took the place of the commander of the aircraft.

The countdown is running out and everything is now ready for the great show that precedes the one in Rome where, in 2023, for the first time in Italy - on the course of the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club - the most important golf match will be played at world, the one between the Old Continent and the USA.

But first there is the appointment scheduled at the Whistling Straits Golf Course. Where the two teams (each made up of 12 players) will fight, as per tradition, for glory and prestige. No cash prizes, with Europe united under a single flag and the United States supported by the public (there is still reserve on the number of expected spectators) and by a stellar team.

Led by Steve Stricker, they will be able to count on eight of the best ten in the world. These include Dustin Johnson (world number two) and Xander Schauffele, gold medalist at the Tokyo Games. Europe among its ranks instead boasts the strongest player in the world: the Spaniard Jon Rahm, king of the ranking.

No Italians in the field. And to think that in 2018 to lead Europe to triumph was the Turin Francesco Molinari who managed to win all five matches played and to achieve the decisive point, that of victory. The show will be preceded by the traditional "Celebrity Match" scheduled for Thursday 23 when there will also be the opening ceremony of the event.

Then it will get serious. Friday 24th the first doubles match: four foursomes and fourballs. The same will happen on Saturday 25th. The grand finale with 12 singles matches is scheduled for Sunday 26th. Up for grabs 28 points but in the event of a tie the trophy will remain in the hands of the European team as title holder. Then the wait will move all over to the Eternal City, where in two years it will be the key challenge.
