Collin Morikawa: "Race to Dubai, it's special"

Collin Morikawa is the first American in the history of the European Tour to win the "Race to Dubai" In the United Arab Emirates, the 24-year-old from Los Angeles makes him the DP World Tour Championship and is crowned the best player of the top continental circuit.

Double triumph for the world number two who in Dubai, with a total of 271 (68 68 69 66, -17) strokes, overcame the competition of the Swedish Alexander Bjork and the English Matthew Fitzpatrick (defending champion), both second with 274 (-14).

Already leader of the "money list", the American has been crowned as the new king of the European Tour 2021.

Collin Morikawa, statements

"Being the first American to win the merit order of this circuit is truly special.

I am honored to have succeeded in this feat and to have emulated so many golf greats," said Morikawa, overall winner at Jumeirah Golf Estates (Earth Course , par 72). In the last round Morikawa moved up from fifth position and, with another bogey free lap (exactly as happened in the "moving day") this time closed in 66 (-6), with six birdies (of which two decisive at 17 and 18 , the last of the day), he took everything that was up for grabs.

For him also a check for 2,640,975 euros against a total prize money of 9,000,000 dollars. And he left only the crumbs to his opponents. Nothing for Rory McIlroy to do. Leader of the Dp World Tour Championship after the first and third rounds, the Northern Irishman finished the competition (which he won in 2012 and 2015) in sixth place with 276 (-12) like South African Dean Burmester and English Ian Poulter.

Finishing behind also the Scottish Robert McIntyre and the Dane Nicolai Hojgaard (this year the Italian Open), both fourth with 275 (-13). Positive ending for Guido Migliozzi. The best of the two Azzurri in the race, the Vicenza player ranked 37 / o with 283 (-5) ahead of the Apulian Francesco Laporta, only 46 / o with 287 (-1).

Migliozzi also placed 16 / o in the money list, while Laporta did not go beyond 41 / o. And now Morikawa is no longer only the first golfer to have managed to win the PGA Championship (in August 2020) and The Open (in July 2021), two of the four majors of the male "green"

Now the Californian is also the first American to win the Race to Dubai. A new milestone for a phenomenon that never ceases to amaze. (HANDLE).
