The South African golfer has won more than 150 championships worldwide, including 9 majors. Nicknamed ‘Black Knight’, Player has been considered one of the best of all time. He is much more than just a golfer, though.
He is a compassionate humanitarian. From building schools to the prevention of AIDS, the golfer has campaigned for a lot of causes. And at the ripe old age of 86, Player is still working towards the betterment of the world.
Since its inception in 1983, the Gary Player Foundation has raised $60 million to support children with fewer to no privileges. Blair Atholl School, Christel House, and other elementary schools in South Africa have helped provide education for hundreds of children.
Furthermore, the Foundation also has taken care of the meals, medical care, and transport services. Player has also partnered with an NGO, which helps raise awareness of AIDS in China. The NGO is the beneficiary of the Gary Player Invitational of China.
Hence, all the money raised through the tournament will go to them. “I’m such an admirer of Sadhguru,” the golfer said about the Indian Yoga guru and spiritual leader. Sadhguru is a yogi and a mystic, a man whose passion spills into everything he encounters.
Named one of India's 50 most influential people, Sadhguru's work has touched the lives of millions worldwide through his transformational programs. Player talked highly of Sadhguru, who has dedicated his life to the well-being of humanity, in his Instagram post.
He used the post to show his support for Sadhguru’s new campaign, ‘Save the Soil.’ “I’ve played golf with him on a few occasions,” Player added. “I just like him to know how much I admire what he’s doing”.
According to Player, Sadhguru is currently conducting a campaign by cycling 30,000 km to raise awareness on a serious matter. In his post, Player explained how soil is getting extinct day by day, highlighting his worry that the soil in the world would vanish one day, along with rivers and oceans.
Player kept praising Sadhguru for everything the guru has been doing to protect mother earth. “Appreciate what you do for mankind, and keep going my friend,” Player ended the video with his support towards all the ventures of Sadhguru.
Black Knight was an incredible golfer in his time, with record-breaking success. However, he wants to leave his legacy behind as not just a good golfer but a good human being.
