Irishman Rory McIlroy has become one of golf's biggest stars. If the 32-year-old wins The Masters this weekend at Augusta National, he would become the sixth man to achieve a career Grand Slam, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Woods.
One of the champion’s many admirers includes Kim Tae-Hyung, also known as V, from the K-Pop supergroup BTS. Last week the group posted a video of Kim working on his swing. Translated, the caption reads: "I'm looking @McIlroyRory to take Tae-Hyung Kim, gifted golfer." Since then, the video has racked up more than 8 million views.
Topgolf for Tay-Hyung Despite playing for just a few months, Kim's swing looked smooth and level. Although Tae-Hyung has only been golfing for a few months, he told fans via a South Korean app that allows fans to communicate with their favourite artists, he owes much of his passion to his father, an avid golf fan in his own right.
“My dad said it’s his wish to go out in the field and play golf with his son so it’s been 3 weeks since I started playing/learning,” Tae-Hyung wrote. Fans were curious to know where in Las Vegas Tae-Hyung was swinging his club.
According to a few fans online, he played at an establishment called ‘Topgolf’ in Las Vegas. Topgolf is a ‘technology-enabled global sports and entertainment community’. A focus of their work is to enhance golf, which is a way for people from various parts of the world to connect.
Although Taehyung’s video itself covers a small part of the room and the focus is completely on his swing and form, Topgolf feels like the perfect choice for the idol. Looking at the clip Tae-Hyung shared, he apparently stayed at the venue’s Chairman’s Suite, which can cost up to $8000 for three hours.
In his post, Tae-Hyung joked about his skill, and even referred to himself as a ‘golf genius’. He even tagged PGA Tour star, Rory McIlroy, stating that he is looking for a McIlroy to take a genius like him.
