Lev Grinberg has done it again on the second day of the Soudal Open. We are talking about the Belgian Open, the tournament this week belonging to the DP World Tour calendar. The 14-year-old, who signed 70 shots on the first day, has once again amazed with his 69 (-2) in this second round.
With a handicap of 3.7, the golfer born in Ukraine arrived at the event thanks to one of the six invitations that were granted and of course he is letting himself be noticed.
Lev Grinberg, history
Grinberg began at the age of five in a kyiv club, although shortly after he would begin to train in Belgium.
His father, a former professional badminton player, traveled to this country quite frequently on business, and during one of these periods little Lev made himself known at Rinkven International Golf Club, where the Soudal Open is being played.
Indeed, the emerging golfer plays at home, since he was recruited at this club with seven years. Lev has reaped great results in the categories he has gone through and has done winter training camps in the US. In fact, with the pandemic, he was forced to stay in Florida and took the opportunity to join a team in that state.
He remained there until the end of 2021, when he returned to Belgium. Grinberg's performance at the Soudal Open, as much as it occurs in 'his domain of him', does not cease to amaze due to the precocity of the player.
With 139 in the aggregate (-3 total), he is five strokes behind leaders Matti Schmid, Sam Horsfield and Dale Whitnell (134). Among the Spaniards, Jorge Campillo and Nacho Elvira (136) are the best classified, in sixth position.
The man from Cáceres put the direct in the final stretch and made birdies at 14, 16 and 17 to rise to the upper zone. Adrián Otaegui is with 138 hits and Álvaro Quirós and Santi Tarrío with 140. With 141 are Carlos Pigem, Ángel Hidalgo and Alejandro Cañizares, who also made the cut.
