Pat Perez is one of those who decided to leave the PGA Tour and be part of a new story: LIV Golf. The decision provoked much public criticism, but Perez explained his reasons for nypost.com. “For me, it’s real simple.
I’m 46. I’ve played 515 events. I’ve been on the road since 1998. I’ve been on the road longer than Matt Wolff has been alive. I have an almost 4-year-old. I missed my son’s birth last year,” Perez said, when asked why he decided to jump from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf.
“The bottom line is I’m tired of being on the road every day, and I don’t have to do it now. This opportunity [is] like winning the lottery for me”.
Patrick Reed: It’s more of a family environment
Patrick Reed is also one of the players who decided to perform at LIV Golf.
Reed decided to take the opportunity. His motive is to play with the best players. Many feel that Reed avoids saying the real reasons and that it is well known why he decided to perform at LIV Golf. That is why there is a lot of pressure on the players, tournament organizers, and all those involved in this story.
“To have an opportunity where I can play with some of the top players in the world and on top of it have an opportunity that I feel like for me is more suitable to see who the best player is that week, because everyone starts at the exact same time,” he said, noting the shotgun start.
“There is no such thing as a draw anymore. Now you’re on the golf course the exact same time. Whatever the weather is that day, that’s what you’re playing”. “And I just feel like it’s more of a family environment out here”.
