Rory McIlroy on Ryder Cup: We need to blood some new guys

Rory McIlroy believes that the Ryder Cup in Italy will be an ideal opportunity for young players. After many players decided to become part of LIV Golf, McIlroy hopes that young talents will become part of the team and the 'new generation' that will make great successes.

“There's going to be quite a few rookies on our team, I would imagine,” McIlroy said, as quoted by “With the younger guys coming through, it is time for a rejuvenation of the European Ryder Cup team.

We need to blood some new guys and a home Ryder Cup is the best way to do that”. The supporting crowd could be an important element for the European team. Young players will benefit greatly from this, considering that the pressure of playing in such big tournaments is huge.

McIlroy is aware of the strength of the American team and is wary of new challenges. “You've got your 13th man [the crowd] with you, so you can introduce some new guys,” the world No. 2 said. “Europe has had an unbelievable run in the Ryder Cup for the past couple of decades.

But the American team is very, very strong and doesn’t have a lot of scar tissue compared to the last few teams”.

Rory McIlroy: We'll be the underdogs

The American Team looks convincing. There are many good players who are at the top of the golf scene right now.

Everyone knows how difficult the task will be for the Europeans. However, optimism will never arise and any outcome is possible. “They have their pairings, and they get a chance to do it every year, which I think benefits them,” McIlroy said. “We'll be the underdogs next year. And with how young this American team is, it looks like they will be very strong for a very long time”.
