Greg Norman is currently one of the most criticized personalities on the golf scene, given that he is the main man of LIV Golf. The war between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf has been going on for a long time. Some of the most popular golfers, such as Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, decided to fight against LIV Golf.
A few days ago, Woods criticized Norman and thinks that Norman has to leave, only then things will get better. Cameron Smith defended Greg Norman in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. “He believes in what he does,” Smith said, as quoted by golfmonthly.com.
“Maybe sometimes Greg comes off a little bit abrasive, but he’s just trying to get a point across. He really does believe in this thing. I’ve spoken to him a million times the last four or five events. He believes in it and he thinks it’s a good product.
If you were [to attend] Miami, it’s hard to see how it’s not going to work. Miami was such a turnout. It was unbelievable. The atmosphere was awesome. They’ve gone about things a little bit differently as far as golf is concerned, but they believe in the product and that’s what you want”.
Cameron Smith and OWGR
OWGR and their decisions have angered many. OWGR does not want to award LIV Golf with points, which especially angers the golfers at LIV Golf. Smith is just one of those who lose a lot with this, but he believes that the ranking will become less and less important.
“I’m still third on the list somehow, but as time goes on I think those rankings become more and more irrelevant, especially with not getting world ranking points in those LIV events. I feel like I’m playing some really, really solid golf and yeah, it’s a bit of a pain in the bum”.
