With the victory in the individual classification of the Aramco Team Series Florida, the Spanish Carlota Ciganda sees the chances of entering the Team Europe directly increase considerably in view of the Solheim Cup, which will be held in Spain at Finca Cortesìn from 18 to 24 September 2023.
Carlota Ciganda, Solheim Cup 2023
Thanks to this victory - the seventh in the Ladies European Tour - Carlota Ciganda has gained positions in both rankings which will serve to form the European team that will have to defend the Solheim Cup from the 'attacks' of the United States.
Team Europe will consist of the top two players in the LET ranking, the top six players in the Rolex Women's World Golf Ranking and four players chosen by the Captain. In the world rankings Ciganda is now in sixth place, the last useful one to have access to the team led by Suzann Pettersen.
In front of the Spanish are the English Georgia Hall, the French Celine Boutier, the Irish Leona Maguire, the English Charley Hull and the Swedish Madelene Sagstrom. As for the LET ranking, the dominatrixes remain the Swedes Linn Grant and Maja Stark, followed by Carlota Ciganda and her compatriot Ana Pelàez.
However, since Ciganda is already present in the world ranking, the third position would go to Ana Pelàez, who in this way would have a good chance of being among Captain Pettersen's four choices. As for Team USA, there are different qualification criteria.
The top seven players in the LPGA rankings, the top two in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings plus three players selected by Captain Stacy Lewis will qualify. The LPGA ranking is currently led by Nelly Korda ahead of Lilia Vu, Danielle Kang, Lexi Thompson, Megan Khang, Jennifer Kupcho and Andrea Lee.
The head of the world ranking sees Alisen Corpuz followed by Jessica Korda. Carlota Ciganda Machiñena is a Spanish professional golfer who plays on the Ladies European Tour and the LPGA Tour. She won the LET's Order of Merit in her debut season in 2012 and was also named Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year.
