Officialized the program of the opening ceremony of the first golf Ryder Cup in Italy. On Thursday 28 September at the Marco Simone fan village there will be the former French footballer David Ginola and the Italian showgirl Melissa Satta.
Ryder Cup, opening ceremony
The showgirl - who speaks English very well - will open the curtain of the biennial competition between Europe and the United States alongside a seasoned presenter. In fact, his adventure partner, David Ginola, held this role the last time the Ryder Cup was held in Europe, in Paris, in 2018.
The ceremony will last an hour and will start at 4 pm complete with a musical show on live television. This is the appetizer of the competition that will be followed all over the world as not only a show but also part of the race itself.
Melissa Satta does not hide the emotion for the choice. “It will be wonderful to conduct the Ryder Cup Opening Ceremony. When this opportunity was presented to me . Matteo Berrettini's partner admitted – I could hardly believe it.
It will be really special to see people from all over Europe and America come together in Rome to have fun together and experience the sporting event. Rome is one of the best cities in the world: culture, food and ideal weather in September”.
During the ceremony all the players of the two teams will take to the stage and will be introduced one by one by their respective captains, Luke Donald (Team Europe) and Zach Johnson (Team USA). The ceremony will conclude with the presentation of the pairings for the first game session, the Friday morning foursomes, which will start at 07:35 the following day.
The Ryder Cup matches involve various types of match play between the players chosen from the 2 teams each played over 18 holes. According to the formula now in force, the competition includes eight foursomes challenges, eight fourballs and twelve individual matches.
The winner or the winning couple of each match gets one point for their team, in case of a tie both teams get half a point. A foursome match is a match between two pairs of golfers: players from the same team take turns hitting the ball.
Fourball is always a game between two couples, but each player completes his hole independently, choosing the best result of the couple, and comparing it with that of his opponents. Finally, an individual challenge is a match between two golfers in which each golfer finishes his hole and compares his result with that of his opponent.
In all three cases each hole is won by the team or individual with the least number of strokes, and whoever wins the most holes wins the match.
