The All Star Match will be played on Wednesday 27 September at Marco Simone: a challenge between two teams made up of celebrities from the world of entertainment and sport. The challenge will not be Europe vs USA - as in past editions - but the two teams will bear the name of their captains, two living legends of the Ryder Cup: Colin Montgomerie and Corey Pavin.

In the 2010 Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor they were the captains not players, but at the Marco Simone they will take the field alongside their respective teams. There will also the Italian Tommaso Perrino and the English Kipp Popert.

These are the two teams, divided into pairs. Team Monty: Colin Montgomerie – Gareth Bale, Garrett Hilbert – Leonardo Fioravanti, Novak Djokovic – Kipp Popert. Team Pavin: Corey Pavin – Andriy Shevchenko, Kathryn Newton – Victor Cruz, Carlos Sainz – Tommaso Perrino.

Speaking about the upcoming challenge, Montgomerie, said: “I can't wait to play in Rome and experience some of the magic of the Ryder Cup once again, this time joined by a star team who will bring a varied skill set to the team, together with the passion for golf.

We have top level athletes like Novak, Gareth, Leonardo and Kipp, Garrett Hilbert is a good golfer and will bring a breath of comedy into the heat of battle." Pavin added: “Colin and I have had some memorable Ryder Cup battles in the past, particularly in 2010 as Captains, so I'm looking forward to going head-to-head with him again.

It will be a fun match, but there is always the desire to win and I expect my team's 'fierce' competitive instincts to help us win. Andriy, Kathryn, Carlos and Victor all have great swings, plus fellow pro Tommaso is doing great on the G4D Tour.

I am confident of winning and at the same time putting on a fantastic show for the crowd”. Djokovic, who will play alongside Kipp Popert, said: “I can't wait to play in Rome and experience the incredible atmosphere of a Ryder Cup, which has become legendary.

The course is fantastic and challenging, my playing partner Kipp, a seasoned pro, won very recently at the G4D Tour, so I'm confident we can get a team point. It will be a great show for the fans."
