Team Europe, which includes Francesca Fiorellini for the second time in a row, challenges the USA team in the 12th edition of the PING Junior Solheim Cup, a competition at Under 18 level between teams of 12 elements which will take place at La Zagaleda Golf Club in Benahavís, on the Spanish Costa del Sol, on 18 and 19 September, before the Solheim Cup (22-24 September, Finca Cortesin, Spain).
The continental team, directed by the French Gwladys Nocera (14 victories on the Ladies European Tour where she spent her career) and with the Swiss Nora Angehrn as vice-captain, will be made up of six girls qualified by right, through the appropriate ranking, in order, the Spanish Rocio Tejedo, the Swedes Nora Sundberg and Meja Ortengren, the German Helen Briem, who won the recent Girls Amateur, the other Iberian Andrea Revuelta Goicoechea and the Belgian Savannah De Bock.
With them the other six who received a wild card: Fiorellini herself, the Spanish Cloe Amion and Anna Cañadó Espinal, the Czech Denisa Vodickova, the Swiss Yana Beeli and the Swedish Josefin Widal.
Junior Solheim Cup, schedule
They are part of Team USA, led by Californian Amy Alcott (29 titles on the LPGA Tour with five majors) and with vice-captain Libby Burroughs, Kathryn Ha, Irene Kim, Jasmine Koo, Megan Meng, Elizabeth Rudisill, Anna Song, Asterisk Talley and five young people who will compete in the Junior Ryder Cup the following week: Gianna Clemente, Ryleigh Knaub, Yana Wilson, Leigh Chien and Anna Davis (her twin brother Billy is also on the team in Rome).
Also for the Junior Ryder Cup, all six girls from Team Europe will pass through Spain first: Fiorellini, Tejedo, Sundberg, Ortengren, Briem and Revuelta. The PING Junior Solheim Cup unfolds over two days. In the first there are six foursomes in the morning and as many fourballs in the afternoon and in the second twelve singles.
The balance is in favor of the Americans with eight victories to three, but the previous match in Ohio in 2021 was the prerogative of the Europeans (13-11) - among which, in addition to Fiorellini, also played Ortengren, Sundberg, Revuelta, Vodickova, De Bock and Briem – who will try to take the second victory in a row, a feat never achieved before.
