"The Ryder Cup? It's a shame for those who hoped it wouldn't happen, but that's the reality of the country we live in. Nevertheless, the event is still on. Though there were doubts about its success, it has exceeded expectations and promises to be an incredible experience," states Franco Chimenti, president of Federgolf, during the unveiling of the Ryder Cup information booth at Stazione Termini.

The prestigious golf tournament will take place at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club from September 29th to October 1st.

"I was at the course today and was blown away by its magnificence. It's awe-inspiring and we will certainly see many people come through its gates.

As for the attendance of Mattarella, that remains to be seen. However, I certainly hope he will be there," concludes Chimenti in a professional tone. The Ryder Cup matches include several match play matches between players selected by both teams from among the twelve players that are part of each of them.

Currently, these matches consist of eight foursomes matches, eight fourball matches and twelve singles matches. The winner of each match receives one point for his team, while if there is a tie after 18 holes, each team is awarded ½ point.

A foursomes format match is a competition between two teams of two golfers each. The players of each team alternate hitting throughout the game, always with the same ball. Each hole is won by the team that completes the course in the fewest number of strokes.

In the fourball match format, two teams of two players each are also established, but the four participants have their own ball along the course, and each hole is won by the team whose player holes out the fewest number of strokes.

An individual match is the standard type of competition between two players, in which the player who holes out in the fewest number of strokes scores the hole. The matches take place over three days, usually from Friday to Sunday.

On the first two days, four fourball matches are held in the morning, and another four in foursomes format, the latter in the afternoon. On Sunday the twelve individual matches are held. Not all players have to compete in the Friday and Saturday games; The captain of each team can select the eight players who will compete in each of the four rounds over those two days.

Each match won represents one point, and half a point is distributed in the event of a tie. In the event of a tie at the end of all matches, the team that won the previous edition retains the title.
