Stadium chants, 'Go Europe' 'USA USA' and also in Italian 'one captain, there is only one captain' The welcome from golf enthusiasts is warm on this first day of the 44th Ryder Cup, the biennial highlight of world golf, which takes place, for the first time in its history, on the courses of the 'Marco Simone Golf & Country Club of Guidonia, on the outskirts of Rome.

At stake is the prestigious trophy and above all the prestige of having won it, in fact there is no prize money. The fourth foursomes match of the morning also kicked off amidst the enthusiasm of the public, pitting the Europeans Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood against the Americans Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.

The second and third foursomes matches scheduled for this morning on the first day of the Ryder Cup are also underway.

On the 1st tee, Europe fields Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg against the Americans Max Homa and Brian Harman, while in the third match the Europe fields Shane Lowry and Sepp Straka, against Rickie Fowler and Collin Morikawa.

In the first match of the day, Team Europe fields the Spanish Jon Rahm, paired with the Englishman Tirrell Hatton, while Team USA pits the pair formed by world number one Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns. For Team Europe the first shot was from Jon Rahm.

A thunderous roar accompanied the first shot. Stadium chants, applause, incitement from the thousands of fans who peacefully invaded the Marco Simone since 5.30 this morning. All the players' wives were present in the stands and, among the exceptional fans, Gareth Bale, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Sainz and Leonardo Fioravanti.
