PGA Tour – ZOZO Championship
The PGA Tour champions travel to Chiba, Japan, for this week's ZOZO Championship, the fourth event of the FedExCup Fall Series.
From 19 to 22 October at the Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club, 78 golfers will compete for four days of competition, without any cut expected. The tournament, in its fifth edition, has a total prize pool of $8.5 million and 500 FedEx Cup points and the winner will take home $1,530,000.
The reigning champion Keegan Bradley will be on the field with the hope of doing an encore, but to do so he will have to face a very strong field: on Thursday 16 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking will take to the field, including Collin Morikawa, Schauffele, Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im and Rickie Fowler.
The course is a par 70 of 6473 meters with a Bentgrass green. Experts recommend keeping an eye on: Xander Schauffele who boasts an excellent history on the Accordia pitch: he played the last three editions, collecting two top 10s and a 28th place.
In the last period he achieved a 2nd place at the Tour Championship, after an 8th place at the BMW Championship. He also has a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in his palmares. Adam Schenk, who missed the cut last week at the Shriners Children's Open, but after a difficult first round, carded a 68.
Schenk, like Schauffele, has traveled to Japan each time this event has been held, closing the tournament top 28 on every occasion, including a 16th place in 2022. Cameron Champ, who had an 18th-place finish at the Shriners Children's Open last week and a top 10 finish the week before at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
Champ is asserting himself in all aspects of the game. Last year he participated in this event for the first time and ranked eighth. This year he is in excellent shape and there are all the conditions to obtain a good result.
DP World Tour – Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters
The DP World Tour champions remain in Spain for another week. After the exciting Open de España the players will face Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucia Masters.
From 19 to 22 October the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande will host this DP World Tour event for the first time, but the course is already known to some of the biggest names in European golf. For over 50 years, in fact, the club has hosted the European Nations Championship - Sotogrande Cup, a prestigious tournament for the strongest European Amateurs.
Nine of the 12 Ryder Cup Team Europe players have competed in the event in the past. Among the latter there are two champions who also boast a victory: Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry. Among the winners of the Sotogrande Cup we also mention: Guido Migliozzi, Todd Clements, Francesco Molinari and Marcel Siem, all present in this week's field.
Adrian Otaegui is ready to defend his title, which he won last year thanks to a final 68, winning with a six-shot lead. The champion will not be the only Spaniard in the field: his compatriots Pablo Larrazábal and Jorge Campillo, already winners during the current season, will also try to keep the trophy in their homeland.
With them there will also be the young Rafa Cabrera Bello, Adri Arnaus and Angel Hidalgo. Now in the ninth edition of the tournament, the field has become increasingly international. This week we will also see the American couple Wyndham Clark and Matt Kuchar on the pitch, both for the first time in Spain.
This week's winner will earn 710 points in the DP World Tour Rankings, as players jockey for position in the top 50 at next month's DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. This week's stage is also the penultimate opportunity for players to gain the points needed to maintain membership in the DP World Tour (the top 116 finishers of the Race to Dubai will have access).
In the last two weeks, Marcus Armitage, Richard Mansell and Fabrizio Zanotti have produced great performances to keep their cards and others will be hoping for similar luck. LIV Golf – Miami
