Angel Leopoldo Cabrera, known as “El Pato”, was released on parole last August. A few weeks later, he was filmed with the sticks in his hands. Charlie Epps, his longtime coach, revealed that, in addition to training daily, Cabrera has the goal of returning to play on the Tour.

Angel Cabrera, statements

“He wants to play, he's learned his lesson, and he wants to go back to living his life”. “I think he's very focused on what he wants to do” “He is analyzing the steps to get the visa back in his passport (according to the letter of the issuing device, Cabrera will not be able to leave Argentina until 2025, NDR) and return to the Tour” “We played five full rounds together at the Cordoba Golf Club, where we both grew up, and he closed them all under par”.

“He was humiliated. He knows what he has to do and he says he is ready to have a second chance." The PGA Tour, called into question by Epps' words, promptly released a statement published by Golfweek: “The Tour is informed that Angel Cabrera has been released on parole” “While we do not currently have any updates on his status as a member of the PGA Tour, any new and relevant information will be taken into account in evaluating any changes aimed at making his situation more appropriate”.

There is also another relevant aspect. We cannot forget that Cabrera has two Majors in his trophy case. In 2007 he won the U.S. Open at Oakmont, ahead of Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk. The ten-year exemption, guaranteed by that victory, has now expired.

But in 2009 “El Pato” wore the Green Jacket, succeeding Trevor Immelman, and this guaranteed him the right to participate in the Masters for life. At the moment, Augusta National has not released any statement on the matter, but sooner or later they will have to.
