Irish rugby icon Johnny Sexton, who retired after the World Cup, teamed up with golf legend Rory McIlroy at the Pro-Am before the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. Despite the time difference, the duo played at Jumeirah Golf Estates in the morning.

McIlroy secured the DP World Tour's top spot without playing, while leading the former European Tour money list five times. He holds a commanding lead of 2,083 points over Jon Rahm, with Adrian Meronk in third. The top 50 in the Race to Dubai will compete for a $10-million purse at Jumeirah Golf Estate starting Thursday.

Rory McIlroy talked about his goals in an interview with The Telegraph. The Northern Irishman has always had the greatest ambitions. "I’ve got a nice little cushion in the Race to Dubai at the minute. I know Monty won eight of these things.

Hopefully, I can keep on the journey and try and get close to him."

Johnny Sexton and his plans

Sexton's plans for the future are still unknown, and many predict that Sexton could have a coaching role in Ireland. Alan Quinlan, also a retired Irish rugby player, believes that it is necessary to engage Sexton in order to become part of the Irish team.

"I don't think Johnny Sexton would need time to go somewhere, learn his trade, and all that sort of stuff. I think you could end up losing him if you want him to do that. I think there's a great chance here to try and get him straight in with the Irish team and try to pass on that knowledge, keep going and try to bring the fly-halves and the potential fly-halves that will come in the next few years on to the level that's required.

Whether it will happen or not, it's just my opinion, I'd bring him straight in." Source: Irishmirror
